About Tennis in Hungary

Tennis has a long history in Hungary that goes back to the 1820s, when the sport was widely popular among the Hungarian aristocracy. The Hungarian Tennis Association is the country's governing body of the sport and it plays a very active role in organizing international tennis events, such as the ITF Juniors, WTA, several tournaments in the Tennis Europe Junior Tour and a number of ITF Men's and Women's circuit events. Hungary's national team takes part in major international tournaments such as the Davis Cup and Fed Cup.

One of the major tennis tournaments taking place in Hungary is the GDF SUEZ Grand Prix, which is a WTA Tour event held in Budapest. Tennis fans visiting Hungary will find that the country offers a very efficient transport system that includes international, domestic, and commuter trains, buses, trams and the metro. A major plus for international travellers is that this extensive public transport system is remarkably affordable and fast. Budapest is also home to the country's main international airport, so fans taking flights to Hungary won't have to worry about their onward journey. Being a major tourist attraction, the city also boasts a fine selection of hotels to choose from.

Tennis enthusiasts making a holiday of it can also take advantage of regular hydrofoil voyages on the historic Danube, taking in scenic stretches of Hungarian countryside and even travelling further afield to cities such as Bratislava and Vienna.
