About Tennis in Austria

Vienna, the old imperial capital and centre of Austrian life, is the host of the Bank Austria-TennisTrophy. Held annually in late October, each tournament sees the best players from around the world battle it out for a top spot in front of enthusiastic fans, many having flown from all over Europe to cheer for their favourite player. The event is held at the Wiener Stadthalle, an indoor arena with a seating capacity of around 16,000. After travelling to Austria for this great tennis event, many fans choose to combine the tournament with many other entertaining local festivals and attractions. Vienna is a popular tourist destination and fans can enjoy a multitude of designer restaurants, stylish cafes and trendy cocktail bars or simply take short day trips just outside the city to explore picturesque old wine-growing villages.

Another popular tennis tournament in Austria is the Hypo Group Tennis International, which takes place annually in the medieval town of Portschach. Like the Bank Austria-TennisTrophy, the Hypo Group Tennis International is currently part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. While not so big a tourist draw, the tournament still sees international and domestic fans book hotels and make the journey by plane, train and bus to catch a piece of the action.

Travel within Austria is well integrated. So although most international tennis fans will find themselves arriving in Austria at Vienna International Airport, fast and efficient train and bus services will help complete the onward journey with ease.
