The Portuguese are big fans of motorsport. The country is home to two world-class motor racing venues: the Autodromo do Estoril, and the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. The Autodromo do Estori hosts the annual Portuguese motorcycle Grand prix, one of Portugal's most popular racing events. The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve is the newer of the two circuits, opening in 2008. This modern venue is quickly establishing itself on the international racing circuit, hosting prestigious events such as the A1 Grand Prix, GP2 Series, Superbike World Championship and the 1000 km of Algarve, part of the Le Mans Series. The circuit is located in Portimao, close to the coast in the District of Faro, and boasts its own karting track, sports complex, 5-star hotel and apartments.
Travelling to Portugal and getting around the country is relatively easy for international fans. There are modern international airports and good transport connections located in major cities such as Lisbon, Oporto, Faro and Madeira. Portugal also offers efficient bus, train and even ferry services. The country boasts some stunning beaches and it is easy to see why many motorsport fans choose to turn their stay here into a short holiday.
