Some 200 years on from its initial construction in 1804, the hotel remains the address of choice for visitors to the city. Following its complete destruction in February 1945, the site remained untouched for some time before undergoing extensive reconstruction work. Today the hotel and surrounding area are much more than a mere reproduction of the original. The uppermost floor of the hotel offers conference facilities, meeting rooms and a business lounge.
