The cottage was originally built as a home for Robert Young in the early 19th century. Young rose to the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy and, according to O'Brynes naval directory (1849), he served with distinction at The Battle of Trafalgar. He was honoured with the task of carrying the successful news of victory back to the Admiralty in London by Lord Nelson himself. It is said that a secret tunnel runs from the cobbled wine cellar to the beach. Legend has it that it was used by a previous owner who unexpectedly returned from sea to catch his wife with her lover!
