Though not a famous horse racing nation, the Netherlands has several racecourse and the sport enjoys a loyal and enthusiastic local following. Harness racing, a form of horse racing that sees the jockey sitting on a two-wheeled cart rather than the horse, is particularly popular here.

Located in a wooded area of Wassenaar, just outside of The Hague, is the Duindigt Racourse (Renbaan Duindigt), the only grass racetrack remaining in the Netherlands. The Duindigt Racecourse hosts race meetings each Wednesday and Sunday from the middle of March until the middle of November. The races held here are either flat races or trotting races (harness races). The racecourse provides excellent and comfortable facilities and, being close to the coast, is an ideal destination for racing enthusiasts and even families that wish to combine racing events with a short holiday. Other popular racing venues in the Netherlands are Groningen, Alkmaar and Wolvega, at which harness racing events are regularly held.
