The home of German horse racing is the Iffezheim racecourse in Baden-Baden, located in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg. Each year it holds the Grosser Preis von Baden, the most prestigious horse racing event in Germany, which sees racing fans flying to Germany from around the world. The racecourse has a history that goes back to 1858, when it hosted its first race meeting. It hosts a variety of horse-racing events throughout the year and is also part of the World Series Racing Championship. Iffezheim racecourse is characterised by elegant and friendly atmosphere; travelling fans often choose to book hotels close to the racecourse and turn the event into a short holiday.
Other famous German racing events, such as the Deutsches Derby, Deutschland-Preis, Bayerisches Zuchtrennen and Preis von Europa take place at racecourses in Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Munich and Cologne. Each city has an international airport and, as Germany is world-renowned for its fast and efficient national transport system, travelling fans will face no difficulty in getting around. Excellent public transport networks within the cities themselves allow fans to travel from hotel to racecourse with ease.
