Brighton visitor guide

BRIGHTON RACECOURSE

Brighton Racecourse is a racecourse located on the south coast of England. The course itself is situated on Race Hill, between the suburbs of Whitehawk and Bevendean, which offers great views of the sea and town. The course is set up for flat racing, with a U-shaped track that stretches for about a mile and a half. Interestingly enough, this makes it one of three courses in Britain that is not a circuit, along with Epsom and Newmarket.

The course is not just about horse racing however, and there is a great number of public events including antiques fairs, computer fairs and events such as The Fast and Furious Car Show that take place at Brighton too.

HOW TO GET TO BRIGHTON RACECOURSE

Brighton Racecourse is easily reachable by road and the quickest and most hassle free way to get there is to utilise GPS or sat-nav, or make use of a reputable online route planner. To help with this, the postcode of the course is BN2 9XZ, and it is advisable to steer clear of Brighton town centre to avoid the traffic.

Public transport options are also available, including a courtesy bus service that operates from Brighton Station to the racecourse from around 2 hours prior to the first race. The bus parks 200 yards south of the station (at the top of Queens Road). There are return journeys to the station after the racing has finished.

Rail services run to Brighton from London, and take around an hour, and the station is also served by frequent coastway services operating from Eastbourne, Lewes, Hastings, Worthing and Portsmouth. You can pick up a taxi from there to reach the course.

There are also air options, for those lucky enough to have access to it, with allowances for helicopters landing as long as prior permission is sought.

WHERE TO STAY NEAR BRIGHTON RACECOURSE

Brighton's reputation as a swinging seaside town means that there are a lot of accommodation options available when looking for Brighton hotels. This section will hope to provide a brief overview of some of the accommodation options available within a decent distance of the course.

The Brighton hotel closest to the course is the four star Alvia Hotel, which is just mile from the course. It is also well located for the vibrant centre of Brighton, and all the pubs and clubs in the area. This Brighton hotel offers high class accommodation along with the aforementioned enviable location.

Other Brighton hotels are the three star Westbourne Hotel and the three star Colson House hotel, both of which are a mile from the course. Whilst three stars may indicate a step down, these Brighton hotels still offer excellent lodging and still within fair reach of the course.

Finally, for the truly budget conscious visitor, the one star City Pad: Margaret St Self Catering Studio Flat will sleep three people, and although it is more an apartment set up it is still a viable Brighton hotel option.
