About Football in Wales

Football is one of the most popular sports in Wales. The national football team, and the Football Association of Wales that governs it, is the third oldest in the world. Until recently Wales didn't have a national football league of its own. One was founded in 1992 and the Welsh Premier League is currently the country's top tier of football. Rhyl F.C are the current champions. Top clubs, such as Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham compete in the English football league system.

The largest football stadium in Wales is the magnificent Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. It is the home of the Welsh national team and is one of the largest sporting arenas in Europe. Also located in Cardiff is the Cardiff City Stadium, the second largest stadium in Wales and the home of Cardiff City FC. Liberty Stadium in Swansea is another important Welsh stadium. It is the home of Swansea City AFC, one of the most successful football teams in Wales.

Cardiff is home to Wales' international airport. Wales can also be easily reached by rail, car, bus and ferry. Wales offers a wide range of accommodation throughout the country. Football fans that chose to combine football with a holiday and discover the beautiful scenery Wales has to offer will enjoy the wide range of country hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs on offer.
