The Vicente Calderón Stadium is the home of Atlético Madrid Football Club who play in the Spanish La Liga.
The stadium is located in the heart of Madrid by the banks of the River Manzanares.
Whilst less famous than the stadium of city rivals Real Madrid, the Calderón is both more modern, having been constructed in 1966, and cheaper to get in to.
The stadium has a capacity of nearly 55,000 and regularly holds international matches of the Spanish national team, as well as music concerts.
Madrid is a major tourist hub and its international airport – Madrid Barajas – connects to destinations across the world. The airport is situated 13km from central Madrid.
The Vicente Calderón stadium is conveniently located just outside Madrid’s central district on the southern side.
It is easily reached by bus and metro. If taking the metro, you should alight at Piramides station, which is a short walk from the stadium.
Alternatively, thanks to the stadium’s central location, taking a taxi would be easily affordable.
By the same token, Madrid is a big city so if you want to be based within walking distance of the stadium you should choose your Madrid hotel carefully.
