The Estádio da Luz, commonly translated as ‘Stadium of Light’, is a football stadium in Lisbon, Portugal, and the home of Benfica football club.
The ground is named after "Our Lady of the Light" (Nossa Senhora da Luz) which is an annual religious festival held in Lisbon.
It staged several matches of the 2004 European Championships, including the final between Greece and host nation Portugal
The entire stadium was demolished and rebuilt in 2003, bringing its capacity up to 65,400. The venue in its previous guise was one of the largest in the world with a mammoth capacity of 120,000.
The Estádio da Luz is situated northwest of the city centre.
The best way to reach the stadium from the city centre is by metro. Take the Blue Line and alight at either Alto dos Moinhos or Colégio Militar/Luz, both of which are an easy walk to the stadium.
If travelling by car, the stadium is best reached from the Segunda Circular ring road, which connects with the national motorway network.
The nearest airport is Libson International Airport which connects to major cities across Europe and beyond. It is a 15 minute taxi ride from the stadium.
