About Football in Germany

As the recent FIFA World Cup 2006 attested, people in Germany are very passionate about football. It is the most popular sport in the country and, with the top tier of domestic competition, the Bundesliga, being one of the most prominent leagues in Europe, it is easy to see why. The German national team is one of the strongest in the world and is always prominent in international competition. It has bought home the World Cup and European Championship Trophies on three occasions each.

The most successful football club in Germany is FC Bayern Munich. Their home ground, the Allianz Arena in Munich is one of the largest and most spectacular football venues in Europe. Other major stadiums in Germany are the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Westfalenstadion in Dortmund and the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Travelling to and around Germany is incredibly easy. There are major international airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart, all of which are well connected to the local and national transport networks. Germany has an excellent train network, which is fast, reliable and efficient. Similarly, the autobahn, the national motorway network, is also an excellent way to travel around the country. A wealth of accommodation means fans looking to book a hotel, guesthouse or private apartment in Germany will have plenty of choice.
