The Britannia Stadium is a football stadium situated in Stoke-on-Trent. It is the home of Stoke City Football Club, who used to play their home games at the Victoria Ground up until 1997. The stadium opened in 1997, costing around £15m, and the official attendance is 28,383, though from this year it has been reduced to 27,500 to aid segregation. Of interest is the possibility that if Stoke prosper in the Premier League there is the option of filling in one of the corners to take the attendance over the 30,000 mark. This would also put the Britannia in contention for becoming a UEFA four-star ground, as the stadium has all the other facilities needed for this classification. The stadium has also seen use as a venue for concerts and the like, with artists such as Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi performing there. Away fans visiting the Britannia are located in the south stand, and the section can hold up to 5,000 supporters. The stand, of course, has the facilities you would expect from a modern football ground, including toilets and food and drink areas. How To Get To Britannia StadiumThe best way, if coming by car, is to of course use a good route planner or satellite navigation. To help with this, the Britannia's postcode is ST4 4EG. Parking is heavily restricted at the Britannia, with only certain types of fans, for example executive box holders and disabled fans, allowed access to it. It makes much more sense, if possible, to go by public transport. The closest rail station to the Britannia is Stoke-on-Trent station, which is a two minute walk from Glebe Street, which is where the shuttle buses leave for the ground. These buses leave every 15 minutes from there, and other services are also put on by Wardle Transport; see the Stoke City website for details. |
