Queens Park Rangers visitor guide

ABOUT LOFTUS ROAD

Queens Park Rangers F.C. had played their home games at nearly twenty different locations before moving to Loftus Road in 1917. The ground was built in 1904 and was originally used by amateur side Shepherd's Bush F.C. The club played here from October 1904 until it disbanded during the First World War. QPR chose to move to the empty ground after the army commandeered their previous home. In 1981 Loftus Road became the first ground in British professional football to install an artificial pitch. Loftus Road was converted to an all-seater stadium in 1994 but, with no new stands being built since the early 1980s, the ground has kept a certain old fashioned appeal that is lacking in many new stadiums around the country.

Visiting supporters are housed in the upper tier of the School End. The ticket allocation for the away team is usually 1,200 although this can be increased if required. Loftus Road has a compact nature and fans will find themselves close to the action on the pitch. Traditional match sustenance such as pies, pasties and sausage rolls are available in the ground. Unfortunately alcohol is not available at the away end.

The grounds West London location means that fans looking for a Loftus Road hotel will have plenty of choice whether they choose to stay in a hotel near Loftus Road or somewhere more centrally located in the capital.

GETTING TO LOFTUS ROAD

By Car

Leave the M25 at Junction 16 taking the M40 East towards central London. Stay on the M40, this eventually becomes the A40. Take the exit marked White City and turn right at the traffic lights at the end of the slip road. Head under the A40 and take the right filter lane at the next traffic lights. The ground will be soon be on the left.

Parking is available in the residential streets around the ground but finding a space may take some time. A few car parks nearby offer match day parking so keep a look out for these as you make your way towards the ground. London can be a nightmare for drivers visiting for the first time. Taking public transport is recommended wherever possible.

By Public Transport

The nearest over ground train station is Kensington Olympia; away fans lucky enough to arrive in London on a train that passes through this station will find the ground a 25 minute walk away. Fans arriving in London at another train station will need to use the tube to reach the stadium. The nearest stops to the ground are the White City stop on the Central Line and the Shepherds Bush stop on the Hammersmith and City Line.
