 | ABOUT FRATTON PARK The Fratton End has a new looking single-tiered stand and is the tallest stand at the ground. Opposite is the recently covered Milton End, which is all seated, there is a small moat in front of this area. Both side stands are two-tiered and originally had terracing at the front, which has now been replaced with seating. The South Stand dates back to 1925 and is starting to show its age and the North Stand looks plain and functional. Both North and South Stands are two-tiered and have a number of supporting pillars. The ground is completed with a superb looking set of tall floodlights that were first used in 1962 and its current capacity is 20288. The delicious Shire Foods Chicken Balti Pie is a winner with supporters and is available inside the ground, along with a fair range of refreshments. Away fans are housed in the Milton End where around 2,000 can be accommodated and has recently added a roof so supporters can now stay dry. Unfortunately there are still some supporting pillars that may impede viewing in this away end of the ground. This end is shared with home supporters and the home support is very vocal so be prepared to have a battle in your attempts of out singing the home fans. If all this tire you out and the journey home is too much then there is plenty of Portsmouth hotels in the area for you to get good nights sleep in. GETTING TO FRATTON PARK Fratton Park is definitely a "public transport" venue, as parking is virtually impossible. The nearest local train station is Fratton, which is a ten minute walk away and Portsmouth train station is at least a 25 minute walk away. On arrival at Fratton, you pass the ground on the left; a footbridge is the only way out. At the top of the stairs from the platform turn left onto the footbridge and exit into Goldsmith Avenue. Turn left along Goldsmith Avenue. Turn Left into Frogmore Road and the entrances to the Ty and South stands are 100m ahead. For the Milton End, stay on Goldsmith Avenue for another 100m and turn left into Apsley Road. The entrances to the Milton End are 100m ahead. WHERE TO STAY NEAR FRATTON PARK If you would like a hotel near Portsmouth one of the least expensive options is The Beaufort Hotel, nestling in the heart of Southsea only one minute's walk from the sea and within a mile of Fratton Park. For those with a greater budget, the 3-star Best Western Queen's hotel may be more appropriate in the way of Portsmouth hotels. It is situated with 1½ miles of Fratton Park and close to entertainment centres. For those lucky enough to have no budget constraints there are some luxury hotels near Fratton Park like the 4-star Hilton Portsmouth, a modern hotel located five miles from the centre of Portsmouth and easily accessible from the motorway might be more appropriate. All bedrooms are well-equipped and the hotel has superb facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, spa bath, sauna, steam room, mini gym and outside all-weather tennis court. The hotel is within 3 miles of Fratton Park. | | | |
