Plymouth Argyle Guide

Home Park, Home Park, Plymouth, PL2 3DQ, England

Home Park, the home ground of Plymouth Argyle F.C. is the most Westerly and Southerly Football League ground in England. Due to Plymouth's naval importance, the ground suffered heavy bomb damage during the Second World War. Old trams, busses and even railway sleepers were used as temporary terracing, changing rooms and offices until the ground was rebuilt. Home Park underwent significant redevelopment in the early 2000s; two stands and one side of the pitch were rebuilt with modern all-seater stands taking their place. There are plans to further redevelop the ground, the project is rumoured to include, as well as a new Grandstand, leisure facilities and a Home Park hotel.

Supporters of the visiting team are seated in the Barn Park End. The modern stand provides excellent views of the action and the facilities are good, although the small concourse can get a bit cramped at half time.

Getting To Home Park

By Car

Due to Plymouth's location it is likely that fans driving to Home Park will approach the city from the East. After leaving the M5 take the A38 Devon Expressway. As you approach Plymouth, take the third major exit off the A38, the A386 for Plymouth City Centre and Devonport. Head down this road and you will soon see the ground. Home Park is well sign posted from the A38 so there should be no problem getting to the stadium.

A large, free car park is available at the ground. A 'first in, first out' system is in operation and seems to do a good job of keeping the post match traffic under control. Street parking is available nearby and fans wishing to park in the city centre will find plenty of parking options there.

By Public Transport

Home Park is located about a mile North of Plymouth's main railway station at the Northern end of Central Park. When leaving the station, turn right and head down the hill passing under the bridge. Head straight over the roundabout and keep heading along Alma Road (A3064). The ground will soon appear on your right. The walk takes about 20 minutes; fans not wishing to make the journey on foot should take a taxi or catch a bus from near the train station. Any bus heading for Milehouse passes by Home Park. Fans arriving in Plymouth by bus should exit the bus station and head for the railway station (it will be sign posted). Once near the station, just follow the above directions for walking to the ground.
