Opened in 1897, Villa Park is the home of Aston Villa FC, and is located in Aston, Birmingham. Originally costing around £17,000 to open, the ground is the most used FA Cup semi final venue, and was also used as a venue at both the World Cup in 1966 and during the European Championships of 1996. Villa Park has an all-seated capacity of 42,640. Away fans can usually be found housed in the lower tier of the North Stand, though when demand is high some areas of the Doug Ellis stand also become available. There are refreshment and toilet facilities in the away ends too. An old ground with lots of history, Villa Park offers an authentic "away day" football experience that any football fan would relish. Getting To Villa ParkVilla Park on match days is subject to a traffic exclusion zone, though there is provision for off-street parking. Reachable from the M6 by both junction 6 and 7, it is best to use a good route planner or sat-nav to get there easier. To this end, the postcode for Villa Park is B6 6HE. There are good public transport links also. The number 7 from the city centre means the ground is just a ten minute journey away. Aston Villa also runs the Villa Special Bus Service, which goes to other areas of Birmingham and the Midlands to get fans to the ground. Trains run to both Aston and Witton station, and it is respectively a 15 and 5 minute walk to the ground from the stations. Taxis can be ordered from the security lodge at the ground also, and there is close-by coach parking for home and away fans bookable through the club itself. Many of the transport options here, such as taxis and efficient public transport, can also be used to access your Villa Park hotel. Birmingham Airport is only a short taxi ride away from the city centre and Birmingham New Street train station is connected to the rest of the country, meaning transport to Birmingham, and thence on to Villa Park, is not difficult at all. |
