The SWALEC Stadium is a modern cricket venue near the River Taff in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and was rebuilt in 2008 at a cost of £9.5 milion.
The stadium in its former incarnation was called Sophia Gardens – named after the Marquess of Bute whose family owned the grounds – and was home to the Glamorgan County Cricket Club since 1967.
The revamped venue has a capacity of 16,000 and remains Glamorgan’s home.
As well as county matches, the SWALEC has also hosted internationals including Twenty20 matches.
The SWALEC Stadium’s location in the heart of Cardiff city centre makes it easy to reach, whether coming by train or car.
Cardiff Central Train Station is one mile from the Stadium and operates First Great Western main line connection routes to and from London, Birmingham, Manchester, South West England and West Wales.
For those travelling by car, Cardiff’s position off of the M4 motorway means it is within two hours drive of London and the East Midlands. If you don’t fancy driving into the city centre, one option could be to park in Bristol, which is a 20 minute train ride to Cardiff.
If you’re arriving by air, Bristol also has an airport, whilst Cardiff airport is approximately 12 miles (19 km) from Cardiff city centre.
