Edgbaston is a famous cricket venue in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham, England, that was opened in 1886. It is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club and is also used for Test matches and One Day Internationals. The ground capacity is 21,000. Edgbaston's most recognisable feature is the Thwaite Memorial Scoreboard, at the City End of the ground. Edgbaston is also home to the Warwickshire Bears, Warwickshire’s ‘limited overs’ team, and over 50 days of cricket are played during the summer months. Because the games are shorter, this period is known to be more family-friendly. Edgbaston also boats a popular Museum of Cricket, located in the pavilion and open on match days throughout the season. Getting To EdgbastonBirmingham is one of the most accessible cities in the UK. Its central location means that almost all cross-country trains pass through the city. In addition, Birmingham is well served by motorways and therefore easily reachable by car. There are two mainline railway stations that are both within walking distance of Edgbaston: Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Snow Hill are situated approximately 1 mile from the ground. If you don’t fancy the walk, there are buses (numbers 45 and 47) that run from the City Centre to the stadium. For those arriving by air, Birmingham International Airport (BHX) is a major transport hub that connects to cities across the UK, Europe and beyond. It is located 9 miles from the city centre and there are regular trains and buses to take you there. |
