Donington Park World Superbikes and Moto GP – Where to Stay

Posted in  Motorsport by Paul on the June 9th, 2009

985274_speedThe British enjoy racing and you will too at Donington Park, where you can enjoy both motorbike and Formula 1 racing. Home of the British Motorcycle Grand Prix, the British Touring Car Championships, and World Superbikes, there is something for every race fan at this prestigious venue. A little over 2 hours from London, Donington is located in the English countryside near Nottingham and Derby.

Where to Stay:
Near the track are several quality hotels and guest houses at which to stay. Visit Janet and John at the Croft Guest House for a true taste of English hospitality. A variety of room sizes are available, as well as secure lock-up for your bike. The Morton House hotel is less than 2 miles from the track, has wheelchair access in one family room, and offers a substantial breakfast of home-made items including honey.

A quick 10-minute drive and you can stay at England’s first purpose built health resort, Champneys Springs. Relax in the whirlpool or sauna, play tennis or take relaxation classes to unwind from the excitement at the track.

The nearest 4-star hotel is just 3 miles from the track. The Best Western Premier Yew Lodge Hotel will pick you up from the airport and offers 101 executive bedrooms in comfortable British luxury.

Just minutes from Donington park is a contemporary gastro pub, the Queens Head Hotel. Downstairs you will enjoy modern British cuisine and traditional pints, while upstairs the en-suite rooms will let you sleep comfortably until the races begin again.

There are several Bed & Breakfasts catering to race fans, including Hilltop Farm and The Barns, with reasonable pricing and comfortable rooms. The Barns B&B has 6 luxurious, contemporary rooms, a helicopter landing pad should you need one, and a delicious breakfast of home made cakes and breads, as well as local produce and meat.

The Tudor Rose B&B is a small family-run B&B that prides itself in being your home away from home. Located in the small town of Hilton, this luxurious and comfortable B&B was quality enough for Mary, Queen of Scots. No expense has been spared to ensure the luxurious rooms meet all of the guests’ expectations.

Experience the English countryside by staying at the Sealbrook Farm Cottages. Surrounded by open farmland in the heart of the National Forest, this converted barn has two cottages sleeping 4 and 8 that are interconnected for larger parties. Each cottage has a private garden and a fishing pond is available on the grounds. Tell them when booking if you are bringing children or horses as they have a one acre field available.

Concert @ Doncaster Racecourse

Posted in  Horse Racing by Alex on the June 2nd, 2009

Our friends at Doncaster racecourse are hosting a music festival this weekend, June 5th and 6th, around the theme of 80′s pop. Being 80′s fans make us want to go! Here is the press release containing all the information …

ORIGINAL 80’S CHART-TOPPERS ‘LIVE’ IN CONCERT AT DONCASTER ON FRIDAY EVENING FOLLOWED BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON ‘DERBY DAY’ ON TOWN MOOR

Doncaster Racecourse will see all of the action this Friday evening and Saturday afternoon (June 5 & 6), with the fantastic ‘Here & Now’ ‘live’ 80’s Concert after racing on Friday, featuring a host of the original artists from the music scene of that era in an open-air concert, while on Saturday, race-goers can enjoy the build-up to the Investec Derby at Epsom with a quality programme on Town Moor, featuring a pair of £25,000 races.

Friday evening sees the first of three brilliant live open-air concerts being held this summer at Doncaster, and when racing finishes at 8-45 p.m., that’s the signal for the music to begin. A star-studded line-up includes Paul Young, Midge Ure, Kim Wilde, Belinda Carlisle, Curiosity Killed The Cat and Kid Creole & The Coconuts.

For those coming in their best 80’s-themed outfits, there are five pairs of tickets to be won to the R’n’B Music Night on Saturday, June 27th in a special competition to impress the judges and the chance to meet the artists in person on Friday night!

Racing on Friday evening begins at 6-05 p.m. and the fully-sponsored card is sponsored by companies in association with Construction Index – Autec Construction Training, Total Reclaims Demolition, Replas Concrete Repair and Multifab Metals Engineering & Fabrication.

The action on Saturday is set to start at 2-05 p.m. Regular sponsors, Society Lifestyle & Leisure Magazine and Moss Properties each support a race, while The Doncaster Exhibition Centre Handicap Stakes (for three-year-olds over the straight mile) and The Lincoln Restaurant Fillies’ Handicap Stakes (extended mile and a quarter) are also featured.

There’s a 35-minute gap between the fourth and fifth races, so that race-goers can see the Investec Derby from Epsom, which is due off at 3-45 p.m.

There’s free entertainment for youngsters on Derby Day in the Family Enclosure, including a bouncy castle, face-painting and football skills. Mini-workshops with the ‘Doncaster Rovers in the Community’ team.

A giant screen situated opposite the main stands will enable race-goers to see all of the action. For those wishing to leave their cars at home. A regular shuttle bus service run by First will be in operation from the railway station (£2 return).
